Hello. My name is Zeynep, but I've picked up many nicknames throughout my life, including Zeyno, Zeynoş, Neppy, Ziggy, Zig, Zippo, Z, Agent Z, and any variations you can come up with. The name Zeynep is Turkish, which makes sense because I am from Turkey. I was born in Istanbul on September 30th, 1985, lived there with my parents until I was six, then my parents and I moved to the US of A. I am an only child. Except for my aunt's family & cousins, my entire extended family still reside in Turkey, and I usually visit every summer. We have one other member of our family, our darling sheltie Pasha.
For the next twelve years, I was raised down yonder South in Nashville, Tennessee. Recently my parents and I have moved to the
Northeast, but I can't deny my Southern roots. I'm a senior at Boston University, double-majoring in International Relations and
Japanese Language & Literature. I hate the cold and wonder what compelled me to choose
Boston of all places to go to college, but somehow I've managed to survive
the frostbite warnings, mountains of snow, and a particularly unpleasant
dorm fire alarm at 1:00AM one frigid February night during a blizzard.
As of September 2004, I've been dating a boy named Edward, a native
Bostonian. He's converted me to Red Sox fandom. I also spent fall
semester 2005 in Kyoto, Japan, at the Kyoto Center for Japanese Studies,
a program run by Stanford in which a consortium of schools participate,
including BU. I've played the piano since 1990; I used to play the flute, sing in choir, take music history and theory, and compose my own piano pieces. I'm trying to keep up with piano in college. Favorite musical artists: Athena, Badly Drawn Boy, Belle & Sebastian, Ben Folds, Beyonce, Blur, Bob Dylan, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Coldplay, Counting Crows, The Cure, Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, Elliott Smith, The Flaming Lips, Franz Ferdinand, Gorillaz, Jay-Z, The Killers, MFÖ, Mirkelam, Mor ve Ötesi, Oasis, The Postal Service, Queen, Radiohead, REM, Sertab Erener, Sezen Aksu, The Shins, Simon & Garfunkel, The Smiths, The Strokes, Talking Heads, Tarkan, Teoman, and U2. My favorite comics are Calvin & Hobbes and Sinfest. I love to laugh, cook, and dance. I've been designing websites since I was twelve years old, and I love Photoshop. I also love to travel and if I could, I'd learn all the languages in the world. As a kid I was a Lego and computer game nerd. Recently I've dabbled in Martial Arts, knitting, board games, crosswords & sudoku. Turkish, Japanese (sushi!), and Thai cuisine make my day, and a good burrito is heavenly. I'm a carnivore. I also love to watch international football (go Turkey!) and I really get into it. As embarrassing as it is to admit, if a movie's good enough, it'll make me cry. If I'm ever caught watching TV, it's probably because Seinfeld or Whose Line is it Anyway? is on. Favorite movies: Amélie, Chicago, Cinema Paradiso, Dr. Strangelove, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Ferris Bueler's Day Off, Fight Club, Get Shorty, High Anxiety, Indiana Jones, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Lost in Translation, Monsoon Wedding, O Brother Where Art Thou?, The Princess Bride, Royal Tenenbaums, Se7en, The Usual Suspects. Favorite books: Catch 22, Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Things They Carried, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Love in the Time of Cholera, The Great Gatsby, The Little Prince. Favorite anime/manga: Card Captor Sakura, Cowboy Bebop, Fruits Basket, Kare Kano, My Neighbor Totoro, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Spirited Away, Visions of Escaflowne. As the overplayed pick-up line goes, "What's your sign?" Both my Sun and Rising Signs are in Libra. That means I love balance and fairness, I'm very wishy-washy, and I hate confrontation. My Moon Sign lies in Aries, which means that I have the tendency to be rash and short-tempered in emotional situations. According to the Chinese Zodiac, I'm an Ox, but who knows what that means. I'm mildly obsessive compulsive. I speak Zeynepish, a combination of all the languages floating around in my brain. According to Myers-Briggs, I'm an INFP (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving); introverted being the key word. I try to keep these quotations in mind, to think of when I doubt myself: "Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go" (T. S. Eliot). And: "Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, our greatest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure" (Marianne Williamson). That's me in a nutshell. The
rest you'll have to figure out on your own. There's only so much a girl
can say about herself. |
